muscular system of Lophelia pertusa
Lophelia pertusa is a species of cold water that is found in the Northern Atlantic Ocean. Unlike most species of coral it grows in a region that is cold for a good portion of the year. Like most coral species it does not have an extensive muscular system. This coral species does have tentacles, like the other Cnidaria species. These tentacles are used to catch food. When a coral reef is growing living coral will use their muscles to attach themselves to the remains of dead coral and expand the reef.
